In this project we had to make something that has to have something else to make it complete. There would be two pieces and each one would make something together. I chose to make a face then cut it so it wouldn't be a whole face unless you put both pieces together. The hardest part about making this piece was the nose. I had to make both sides the same shape and size which was a little hard. When I finally got it I finished the rest of the face and it looked better. At the end I was going to cut straight down the middle but then I decided to make the line a squiggly line. Now it looks more interesting. This is how I created my piece.
The last project we were working on was our animal morphing sculpture. I chose to make a cobra but with a lion's head and legs. I chose this because I thought of the king cobra and lions are the kings of the jungles. First I started with making the body of the cobra. Then I had to make the neck part thick enough to hold the lion's head. At first when I started making the lion's head it looked more like a snake head and I decided to re-do the head. Then I made the head separate then I had to attach them together. At first I wasn't sure how I would attach the head. Then I had an idea to score and slip it then put the lion's mane over the cracks and less attached parts. That helped it and made it much easier. This is how I designed and made my lion cobra.
During this project we were creating coil pots or vases. At first I was going to make mine get wide and then get close together at the top. But then I had a better idea to make it a net shape so it would be less wide at the bottom and get wider at the top. Then I started making little basketballs and putting them on the inside of the bowl. After adding a few I had another idea to put lines on the outside so it would look like a basketball net. This is how I came up with my idea to make my piece. When I started thinking of ideas to so for my piece I thought of basketball because I had a game recently and I thought it would be cool to do. Having basketball every day and games twice a week keeps it on my mind a lot so I thought it would also be easier for me to do basketball since i'm around it so much.
1. I think that my most successful artwork I made was my spoon because I made it and I didn't have any problems with making it. 2. One of the artworks that I had to overcome obstacles was my sphere. It was hard for me to make both halves of the spheres to fit the other sides. It was also hard to smooth out the sphere's sides. 3.I think my box and my spoon are my two artworks that show my growth as an artist. I think these two because they were the most successful and one is more simple and the other was much more difficult. They also show growth by how one artwork was a little messy but the other is better completed than the other. 4. Using clay as the only medium has been an interesting experience. Frustrations I have with just using clay is not being able to try any other different mediums. The positives of only using clay is that we will become much better at using clay in our artwork.
